“On her latest lucious CD, Tanyss Nixi sings about dead-end towns, escaping our six-month winters and the
struggles of being an artist. Bathed in mournful guitars, organs and her haunting pipes..."
-Edmonton Journal, November 2007
"Strongest independent Alberta release I've heard this year.”
Dan Cherwoniak, CBC Radio 2, November 2007
“The music is possessing of fierce energy despite its Twin Peaks, slow-dance tempo…
Once again, I must stress the luck we share living in this transitioning, decaying city;
its songwriters pick up on this and make beauty of even our ugliest communal neglect...
Thanks for making it prettier, Tanyss, smokestacks and all…” Edmonton Sun, December 2007
"Tanyss' voice is beautiful,
drowsy and mean...
she has a way of drawing her sounds out long and lonesome..."
-Mote MGZN
"Nixi has a breathy voice, reminiscent of Juliana
Hatfield.
Her sound is delicate and textured, which places her songs above the typical
folk-rock crowd..."
-Chart Attack
"Tanyss Nixi puts on an exquisite performance,
with a range of dynamics
that bring to mind thunder, lightning, baby birds and the gun range..."
-The Gateway
"A must-see amongst other musicians for her
excellent singing and well-crafted songs..."
-See Magazine
"A wee smasher!"
-Andy Donnelly, CKUA radio, The Celtic Show

Tanyss Nixi was raised by her Aunt and Uncle in
an isolated, Northern Alberta "prairie oil town."
The long cold winters(-30 degrees celcius), combined
with a very challenging childhood, account for some
of the images and attitudes within her songs.
Wherever it all comes from, she certainly has a gift
for words. With her first band "Soft" and later as a
solo artist, she toured in Canada, the UK, and the
Southwestern United States.
Her songs are somewhat reminiscent of Neko Case, Mazzy Star and Lucinda Williams.
